“Field2Base has completely simplified the way we manage field documentation. Going paperless and standardizing our processes has made information easier to capture, easier to access, and much more reliable across Big B. It has saved us time while giving us better visibility and consistency throughout the company.”— Daniel Arevalo, Logistics Manager · Big B Crane
Headquartered in Burleson, Texas, Big B Crane has served the South Central United States for more than 20 years, operating a fleet of 100+ crawler, all-terrain, and rough-terrain cranes for commercial construction, wind power, and oil & gas projects. In 2024, the company launched a new Arizona division focused on turnkey projects — expanding the operation Field2Base needed to keep standardized.
Before Field2Base, Big B's field documentation moved on paper — and paper doesn't always make it back. Forms could sit in a truck for days before reaching the office, and by the time they arrived they were sometimes lost, delayed, or incomplete. Photo documentation needed for compliance was inconsistent, since there was no reliable way to guarantee a picture actually made it into the right file. And because every division — commercial, wind, safety, fleet, and oil & gas — had built its own version of the same forms over the years, there was no standard way to capture the same kind of information twice, let alone compare it across the company.
Big B didn't try to digitize everything at once. The rollout started small and deliberately: a limited group of users, and two high-value processes — a Job Hazard Analysis and a field checklist — built to prove the platform worked before asking the rest of the company to change how they worked. Once that group was live, Field2Base expanded division by division — commercial, then wind, then safety, then fleet, then oil & gas — standardizing forms that used to look different in every group. Document scanning gave teams a lower-friction way into the platform, letting them start submitting digitally before every legacy form was rebuilt from scratch. The clearest example of turning paperwork into action is Big B's Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) workflow. When a driver identifies a problem during an inspection, the form doesn't just get filed — it automatically escalates to fleet leadership, notifying the right people faster so a mechanical issue can be evaluated, parts ordered, and repairs scheduled before it turns into a breakdown on a job site, getting trucks back on the road faster without compromising safety.
What began as a two-form pilot is now a company-wide platform: 43 digitized processes, 150+ field users, and an estimated 25,600 forms submitted annually. At roughly 20 minutes saved per submission, that's an estimated 8,533 labor hours — about 4.1 full-time employees' worth of capacity — returned to the business each year, worth an estimated $298,667 in annual efficiency gains. Just as important is what doesn't happen anymore: paper doesn't get lost in a truck, photo documentation doesn't get missed, and every division is now filling out the same form the same way.
Estimated efficiency gains are calculated using annual submissions, estimated time saved per submission, and an assumed labor rate. These estimates illustrate potential operational efficiency and are not guarantees of actual savings.
